If you listen really hard, you may be able to hear the soulful sounds of the North Penn High School Navy Jazz Band as they perform today at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. It’s one of the most popular music festivals in the country and attracts more than one million people each year.
Directed by teacher David DiValentino, the band has the distinction of being the only high school band outside of New Orleans ever invited to play. The students won the SteelStacks High School Jazz Band Showcase last year and were asked to be the opening act for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band at SteelStacks’ RiverJazz Festival. You might say one thing led to another and now they’ll be performing at the festival which also hosts music greats such as Pearl Jam, Van Morrison, Nick Jonas, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg and many others.
We’re so proud of these students, their teacher and their commitment to their craft which has led to this great honor!
